Why Golf Holiday Packages
ROIS decided to focus on golf because it is a prestigious sport which joins together people. This sport helps people to play together with people from all over the world, in a charming scenery context. Golf is one of the few games that do not require a particular area: every playing field has its own golf course, which consists of 9 or 18 holes of different lengths. Every field in the world - and in Italy there are many fields - has different characteristics.
Golf is governed by many rules that are updated and published every four years. The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R & A) looks after these in Europe and the American United States Golf Association (USGA) looks after these in America.
Golf has rules of etiquette. Players must have a respectful behaviour of the other players throughout the game. The Committee could disqualify a player if he breaks up the etiquette. These rules include, for example, the complete silence while a player is hitting the ball; the fellow players should stay out of his visual field.
Golf in Italy
According to Luciano Marsala and Alberto Viotti, golf was introduced in Italy in the eighteenth century by the Count of Albany, who played golf in Rome, in Villa Borghese. Afterwards it was built in Rome a field in Villa Doria Pamphili. His frequenters were the members of the British community in Italy.
For initiative of some enthusiastic people, about ten golf courses born in the late nineteenth century. Among these there are one in Varese (in Valganna), one in Florence, one in Dervio (by the Como lakeside), and one in the places where, in more recent years, emerged the complex of Castelconturbia. The club of Rome, founded in 1903, in Acquasanta, is the oldest golf club among those still in business. In 1907, above Menaggio (by the Como lakeside) raised the circle of Menaggio and Cadenabbia, on the initiative of a British residents group.
In the first post-war, clubs born in Milan, Turin, and Varese. Meanwhile golf courses were also built in many holiday resorts: Carezza, Mendola, Merano, Bordighera, Claviere, Lido of Venice, Sanremo, Madonna di Campiglio, Fiuggi, Rapallo, Sestrières, Villa d'Este and Bogliaco. Above Stresa, in Alpino, was also built a golf course, which hosts, in 1925, the first Open in Italy won by Francesco Pasquali. He was an Italian professional who first immigrated to France, where learned the profession, and afterwards returned in Italy. Pasquali became the first-string professional of Alpino, where he remained until his death. Other teachers have covered a similar route, like Luigi Prette, from Nice, and Rudy with Petek Bepy Zuppicich. Both Italianized their names in Rodolfo Gallo and Giuseppe Zuppini respectively.
About the Championships amateurs: the International Championship of Italian Golf was played since 1905, while the first National Championship was played in 1929 with the win of Eugenio Ruspoli on the course of Rome. The first Italian Women's International Championship Golf Course was played in 1928, while the National Championship Golf Course was played the following year.
The Italian Golf Federation was founded in Milan, in 1927, on the initiative of Florence, Palermo, Stresa, Turin and Villa d'Este clubs. In the beginning, it is a private association, but the next year, with 20 golf clubs, its base was moved to Rome. At the beginning of twentieth century, the first golf professionals who practised in Italy were foreigners and mostly British, but there were also Italians professionals returned to our country from abroad. Afterwards some golfers began to establish themselves as the first professional golfers grown up as golfers in Italy, like Pietro Manca and Cesidio Croce.
