Of all the countries in the Gulf the warmest welcome that tourists traveling to this region receive is unquestionably that of the Omani people.

Other must see locations include the Round Fort of Nizwa, the historic town of Bahla, Jabrin (the finest of Omans many castles), the red and white dunes of Wahiba Sands, the pretty mountain villages of Wadi Bani Khalid, the Ra's al Hadd beach at the eastern extremity of the Arabian peninsula where tourists can observe the nesting habits of green turtles coming in from the sea.
For the more adventuresome the possibility of camping in the mountains at an altitude of 2500m and the temperatures of 25C in the daytime, with lots of things to do up there including hiking in the Wadi Nakhr Gorge, Oman's Grand Canyon.
With the khareef winds setting in at the first of June and continuing through September another fascinating spot not to be missed is Salalah which turns into a garden from the rain and mist that soak the southern region for three months. In August the famous Khareef Festival takes place with lots of pageants and cultural activities.
